Family Halloweening
It’s no secret that San Francisco does Halloween hard. From trick or treating, house decors, haunted houses and grownup parties, we are always game for a good Halloween.
Today, we share our favorite family Halloween memories in San Francisco. We have gone to many different neighborhoods, and it’s hard to pick the most favorite. But there’s one thing to say about West Portal: it is packed with kids and lights and treats! Glen Park festivities are also one to join. Neighbors go all out and welcome kids in their costumes.
1. West Portal
There’s one thing to say about West Portal: it is packed with kids and lights and treats! The shops also gave out treats, and sidewalks are packed
2. Glen Park
Glen Park festivities are also one to join. Neighbors go all out and welcome kids in their costumes. We saw many halloween exhibits that neighbors put together, which is such a great gesture and says so much about this neighborhood.
3. Laurel Heights
When our kids were much younger, it was a lot easier to navigate their trick or treating to places we felt were safe for their size. Laurel Heights shops have treats for the little ones in daytime hours, which we found to be perfect so we didn’t have to be out at night
4. Academy of Sciences
It is much more enjoyable to bring even smaller kids to the museum! We came in costume and explored our way around. There weren’t that much Halloween festivities, but with two kids under 2 years old, all that really mattered was getting dressed up.
5. Westlake area
One time we went out to Westlake, mainly to visit a friend. There weren’t too many active houses giving out treats, which was okay! The Westlake shops do give out treats, and is also a fine area to take smaller kids to. For the grown ups, a chance to do some grocery shopping or getting coffee at Starbucks. Why not!
6. Serramonte
Not our ultra favorite, but mall trick or treating was an option for bringing a larger group. It gets crowded, and not as fun, but for the kids, they get their treats. Not our best recommendation, but definitely an option!
7. Sunset
For good ol’ fashion trick or treating, the Sunset is probably our most favorite. Not too many houses go all out with decorations, but there are plenty houses with lights who give out treats. It never gets crowded but there will be groups going up and down the blocks. There are block parties that happen as well, but we have not joined those. Traditionally, it was to walk a block, ring the bell, get your treats, and move to the next. The way American Halloween has been for generations!
Stay safe!
