Cheap, Safe and Easy Home Remedy Against Unwanted Weeds
Taking care of an old house in San Francisco can be a great honor, and also, high maintenance. Our house is quite old (records show built in 1900), and needs a lot of maintenance. We do not have a history of who lived in this home, how it was taken care of, and what has been taken care of. Other than the few permits filed with the city inspection department, we don't know much more.
Our house is built on a slight slope, and weeds grow out of the concrete. It grows out from under the house as well, through the foundation. I believe this to be common among old houses all over San Francisco. While we don't exactly have the budget to survey the property and remove weeds, for now, I am using a cheap but effective home remedy. I get that this does not fix in the long term, but I find this weed killer to work very well. This can be used for any unwanted weed on your property.
What you need:

- Dish soap

- Spray bottle

I could use a bigger spray bottle myself, but this one works. It is reused from an old chalk spray, and after my child was done with it, I washed it out and repurposed. Works just fine, but does not carry a lot of volume. You can use any spray bottle, really.
I don't have proper measurements, but this is simpler than it is. Pour vinegar into the spray bottle, almost to the top. Pour salt - atleast 1 tablespoon. Add a spoonful of soap.
Shake the ingredients in the bottle.
Spray at the weeds! That's it.
Just be sure not to spray any plants you don't wish to kill. Here are some before and after photos of the weeds I went after. I sprayed on a Saturday, and photos are on a Sunday.
New weeds do grow out, but in an area on the side of our house, the weeds have not grown back out for a while now.
